Rules for Visitors

There are some some rules for the visitors of White Crater that should be obeyed by all. The first rule is do not very close to the crater mud. Don't throw any kind of trash to the crater, this behaviour will pollute the crater environment. Keep and watch if you bring children with you. Don't smoke and eat around crater area. The last do not make any vandalism around. All of these rules are very important to keep the cleanliness and the beauty of White Crater environment. All of the visitors who come here are expected and conduct their behavior agree with rules and regulations here. It is no doubt if we all obey the rules we can keep the safety and cleanliness of Kawah Putih for a long period of time.

A Bigger Look of the Crater

This is the bigger look of White Crater or Kawah Putih. You can see that in the distance the crater and the land around it is in white with a little blue color. This is contained with a lot of sulphuric substance and also the strong smells of it. When we get closer the smell and the white color, combined with blue and a little bit yellow become very clear to us. It is also important to the visitors to pay their attention toward noticement board regarding their conducts and manners around the crater when they come down closer to the crater. This is for safety reason only, especially for those who bring kids with them to visit White Crater or Kawah Putih.

Closer Look to Kawah Putih

Now we are getting closer to the view of Kawah Putih or White Crater. This is a crater which is full with sulphuric substance. The smell of sulphur will become very strong when we come down getting closer to the surface of the crater. However, this sulphur materials give a unique view where all of the view will be dominated with white color. There are also some trees where some of it are dead trees. This might be because the contamination of sulphur gas or other cause that make the trees around it dead. But some trees are still surviving and enrich the crater environment with its beauty. No need to hesitate that although usually a crater might be become dangerous to visit, especially when we are getting very close to it for Kawah Putih it doesn't like that. We are safe to walk around it although there are still some warning signs that warn us not to get closer to the crater mud and in front of the cave where the sulphur mine had been conducted in the past.

Now We See White Crater from the Distance

Finally we can see White Crater from the distance, that is actually from the above side of the crater. Before we turn down to the crater, we will stand on the high surface of Kawah Putih area. From this area we can take picture of we can see the crater which is in white because of sulphur. Also the smell of sulphur gas will become very strong when we get closer to the crater or walking down to the lower surface of the crater. We can see this clearly when the weather is good enough and we are in our lucky day to visit this place. If we are not lucky all that we can see are just misty weather and rain.

So We are Arriving at the Upper Flatform of Kawah Putih Area

We have arrived at the upper flatform of Kawah Putih area. Here we can see a spacious field that is easy to us to see around, before coming or stepping down toward Kawah Putih area. This field almost all covered with cement or floored and there is no dirty mud or soil that can harm our clothes or trousers. This is also making the Kawah Putih environemnt become plesant and clean.

Forest Situation around Kawah Putih

This is the tropical forest situation at Kawah Putih or White Crater area. Many plants are in there with their Latin name which I regret I can not inform you here as there are so many trees in there. One thing for sure is that the forest situation in here not too dark as usually we can find from the tropical rain forest elsewhere. Not many plants in a crowd at Kawah Putih area so the forest become a little bit clear and not so dark as usually we can find in a forest or jungle in a tropical country.

People Coming from White Crater will Encounter You

People coming from Kawah Putih after finishing their visit will encounter you at the stairs when they pass trhough. It is necessary therefore for people who enter or climb the stairs toward White Crater if they walk in a group for not to occupy all of the spaces of the stairs. This is in order to give the chance for others to passing by or enter the stairs as the same as we are. They have the same right with us too to walk or to step at these stairs, so it is important to consider and paying attention to their rights too. If we don't want other people not treating us in a polite manner, so it is the same expectation apply for others.

The Stairs to Climb

After we turn right from the direction to enter White Crater then we will climb the stairs to go to Kawah Putih area. These stairs are made from the cement and large enough for people to pass through. In a row we can stand for four or five people in coincidence and not need to worry another people would get angry if there were no other people coming from different direction to turn down the stairs. Meant by this is if there were other people who have already finished their visit to Kawah Putih then will turn back to leave Kawah Putih and entering car park area.

The Sign to Go to Kawah Putih

This is the sign for the direction to Kawah Putih or White Crater. It means White Crater Object and then Comes in or just In. This sign is also important to the visitors in order they have clear perception regarding where the Kawah Putih or White Crater is. Especially for those who are the first time to visit this place, it will be necessary to pay attention to this sign. People will have a clear knowledge about the position of the crater when they follow this sign to enter Kawah Putih area. As you can see there is also another street which will go to another place at the Kawah Putih area. So, in order not to go to the wrong direction, please pay our attention to the sign.

Another View of Strawberry Sellers

This is the kiosks of strawberry sellers at Kawah Putih or White Crater. Before we enter the White Crater area, we will see a plenty of these strawberry sellers in here. They are not only selling strawberry, but also selling another items that can be interested to the visitors to Kawah Putih. A lot of items also represent strawberry; from cushion, dolls, tshirt, gloves, scarf, key chain, etc. Some of the stuffs are also represent the tag of Kawah Putih or White Crater. Some strawberry are also sold through the chocolate fudge, or by transform it into strawberry juice. Some of strawberry items are also sold in the form of jam and fruit syrup concentrate for drinks.

Strawberry Sellers at Kawah Putih

Strawberry is become the most attractive commodity sold at Kawah Putih or White Crater area. This fruit is mainly become the main produce planted by Ciwidey inhabitant as their profitable commodity. We can find strawberry is being sold in every tourist area in Ciwidey as the trader try to sell it to the coming visitors to the tourist places around Ciwidey. The price of strawberry is varied depend on the freshness of this fruit and also who buy or sell it. If the trader see that you have a high interest to buy it you might get an expensive price. But if it seems that you are not interested enough, you may get a cheaper price the traders offer you.

Car Park of Kawah Putih

After we climb up from the entry gate through a long and winding and climbing road, we will arrive at the car park of White Crater. This car park is surrounded with many food stalls and strawberry sellers. Almost all of the stuff sold here have the smell of strawberry as this is the main produce of Ciwidey area. While the food stalls itself sell many kind of foods from noodles to fish. You can enjoy or having your lunch here at these food stalls after visiting White Crater.

The Road to the Entry Gate

This is the road to entry gate to Kawah Putih if we see it from Rancabali direction. The road is good enough and surrounded with many trees around, especially trees of tropical forest. Since the Kawah Putih area is managed by the state company for the forest, the management of Kawah Putih area is also under the authority of this state company which is in local term we call as Perhutani or company for forest affair of Indonesia.

The Gate to Enter White Crater

If we want to visit Kawah Putih or White Crater, at first we should enter the entry gate at the road that connected between Ciwidey area and Rancabali tea plantation. Since this road is the main road that connected the two areas, we can see the road is in a good condition. Especially where Ciwidey is a nice place to visit by the tourists, home and abroad, the local government keep the road always in good condition. From Ciwidey we will turn left through this sign of entry gate to White Crater. Tour of White Crater at Ciwidey is the translation of the writing on the wall we see in this picture.

People Come and Go at Kawah Putih, Ciwidey.

It is usual for many of us to come and go to Kawah Putih at Ciwidey while we are on vacation. Besides its cold weather, the White Crater will give its visitors a magnificent experience for seeing the sulphuric crater and tasting strawberry in there. Needless to say that if we visit White Crater we will enjoy another experience in a cold weather place which might be different with another place as it is also passing the jungle and plenty of pine trees live in there. People come and go to Kawah Putih during holidays and workdays but mostly in holidays. They come to see and enjoy the situation at White Crater and its surrounding environment. Most of the people come and then go to see another objects around white crater like hot spring water at Cimanggu or to see the lake at Patenggang. There are also many interesting objects if we go to the south of White Crater area, where we can find a lot of plantation, especially tea plantation.

The Scenery of White Crater

The scenery at White Crater is very attractive to all of the visitors as it has a certain characteristic compared to another place. While visitors come to the place with their intention for enjoying their holiday, they can see many of nice scenery in there. Although in the rainy season the scenery is undeniable very interesting to see. Therefore we need to visit Kawah Putih or White Crater if we visit Bandung and its surrounding area. Going to Bandung during holiday is almost certain for most of the people in Jakarta and other cities close to Bandung area, including Bandung Regency.
